Ever feel colors when you look at a painting? Some are fuzzy. Some smell fruity. Some call this synesthesia. I just call it the Matisse effect. Or the Van Dongen effect. We all know that fauvism is a lot more than brave colors and deep blue outlines. If it was that easy, anyone could be a wild beast. It takes a lot more courage and devotion to stand up to another force like Monet. No, I can’t do that. I want to stay in the middle but lean toward both sides. Does that make me hypocritical? I don’t know. I just enjoy the parallel universes of art.
See my pears and apples? They transcend the edges of fruit. They don’t mind exchanging colors and perhaps a little taste. Who am I to decide which direction I’m headed toward. I’ll let my pears decide for me.
